MSPCA Cape Cod Clinic Discharge Volunteer

Description:

This is an opportunity for people who are excited to engage with the public who are seeking community veterinary care for their pets. The volunteer will assist the clinic staff with discharging patients for their spay or neuter surgeries. There is no animal handling involved in this position, though you may help carry cats in carriers. This position is in the afternoon from 2PM to 4PM.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet the client and explain discharge instructions, post-operative care and medications, and possible complications
  • Carry cats in carriers to their owners
  • Assist in taking payments
  • Clean kennels after patients have left, which are often soiled with urine and feces
  • Complete a variety of tasks to support clinic staff. Tasks may include but are not limited to cleaning floors, washing and folding laundry, and washing dishes, and taking out trash
  • Possibility of assisting with discharge paperwork or responding to phone messages

Skills/Qualities:

  • Empathetic, non-judgmental approach to the public with excellent customer service
  • Ability to work independently and with staff members
  • Have the ability to keep information confidential
  • Able to meet the physical demands of this role, which require variable amounts of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and stooping
  • Able to lift, push, pull or carry objects weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Must be safely able to use a ladder to access food and linen storage or clean high kennels
  • As this role requires frequent verbal and written communication, applicants must be fluent in English.
  • Spanish speaking a plus!
  • Proficiency in using a computer without assistance, and learning new programs. All volunteers digitally log hours and use an online scheduling function.

Requirements:

  • Six month commitment to volunteering
  • A weekly 2 hour shift on a set day and time
  • Attendance of orientation with Volunteer Coordinator and on the job training with clinic staff

Available Shifts:

  • Fridays: 2 – 4PM
