Meet Milan! This spicy lady is looking for a cat savvy adopter who can read her body language and give her space when she needs it. She loves to be around you, and will talk to you with her chirpy meow. She enjoys play time, especially when you play with her. She’d prefer to be your only pet. She’s looking forward to finding her hero – could that be you?
If you think this cat could be a good match for your home and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
Preparing your home for your cat ahead of time can help ease the transition for your new pet and set you both up for success should there be a cat that’s a good match! To learn more about how to make the first few weeks with your new cat the most successful it can be, please visit www.mspca.org/petresources.

Cholula and Tapatio were originally kittens in an outdoor cat colony. In their first year, they moved inside with a kind samaritan who cared for the colony. These sweet kitties are shy at first given their history of starting life at a distance from people, but they have been known to make human friends with plenty of time and space to grow their confidence. They could be adopted together or separately. Each of these kitties would likely benefit from having a confident feline friend at home, so if you have a resident cat looking for a pal, one of these hot sauce cats might be right for you!
Luna is a fiesty and stylish girl who is ready to start anew outside of shelter life. She has lived with a cagemate previously, but didn’t like sharing her things, even with two of everything and a lot of space to roam. Because of this, she would likely do best living nextdoor to other female guineas for company instead of having a cagemate.
If you think you are a good fit and would like to learn more, stop by our Boston Adoption Center. We have open adoption hours Tuesday-Sunday from 12pm-3pm – no appointment needed.
*Before coming to the adoption center, we ask that you have a housing unit ready, in case you end up finding an animal you’d like to adopt. Guinea pigs need a minimum 6.5 sqft wire cage (30”x36”) for 1-2 guinea pigs but preferably 10.5 sqft (30”x50”) for 2 guinea pigs and a minimum 8 sqft for 3 guinea pigs but preferably 13 sqft (30”x62”). Cages must have a solid bottom and more room is always encouraged!

Rats are nocturnal, highly social and extremely intelligent animals! Due to the highly social nature of rats we prefer to match them with homes with existing rats, or to adopters looking to take home two or more rats. Rats can be food driven (and great foragers!) making them excellent animals to train. We always recommend the use of positive reinforcement training with your animals, and are happy to provide more information on this topic.
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows the rat plenty of space to exercise. The minimum cage size should be 2’x2.5’x2’, with good ventilation (no glass enclosures) and must have a solid base. Preferably the shelter includes multiple levels, with appropriate use of linens or paper bedding and lots of rat appropriate toys. Rats should never be housed with other animals, each species should always have its own housing.
The needs of each rat are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rat you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are happy to provide guidance and advice.

Meet Toph! This sweet girl is looking for her forever home with sister Azula! Toph would love a home where she can have all the greens her heart desires! Toph is still learning how to share with her sister, so they will need a large room where they can each have their own separate items (i.e. two bowls, two hiding holes, etc.).

Valkyrie is a beautiful lady who can be social but is a largely independent bun. She has a good history living with dogs, and is litterbox trained. She does not like being held/picked up, and will make her displeasure clear! Valkyrie will do best with adopters that can respect her space and independence. She will likely do best as a free roam rabbit with lots of mental & physical enrichment!
We recommend providing a safe indoor enclosure that allows a rabbit to stretch their legs and move around. The needs of each rabbit are unique and if you have questions about the right type of enclosure for the rabbit you are interested in, please let us know in your inquiry! We are looking for really special families for these dogs, as their life up to this point has been anything but normal and they’re going to need experienced, dedicated people to help them catch up on all the experiences that they have missed! Below you can find some guidelines for what type of adopters we’re looking for so you can decide whether to come in to adopt!
The first thing we know is that these pups have no experience walking on leash, nor have they seen most of the world. Families will need to be able to provide a secure outdoor space at home that won’t rely on leash walks initially for their exercise and potty breaks. Keeping their worlds small to start will help them get comfortable and adjust.
Very young kids are likely to be too overwhelming for most of these dogs, but we know every child is an individual. Some of these pups can live with kids who are able to give the dogs the space they need to adjust. Toddlers or kids who have a hard time giving space will likely be too much for them.
Lastly and most importantly, we are looking for families who are patient and dedicated. These dogs have a long road ahead of them with house training, leash walking and just general life but they have so much love to give. We are looking for folks who are ready to step up and put in a lot of work to get them where they need to be.
Please come with all your patience and understanding. Our small staff has been working tirelessly to care for these dogs and with so much interest, we expect that there will be a considerable wait for many people. Please know we’re doing our best to move quickly while also making the animals’ wellbeing a priority! The dogs will not be available for general viewing, as our kennels are closed to walk through traffic to reduce their stress. We will have more dogs available in the coming days and weeks, so stay tuned here for updates on those!
Meet Babe! This lovable pig is ready to find his special home. Babe loves spending time laying around his pen, laying in his wallow on hot days, or munching on snacks. Given his lazier personality, Babe needs to have his diet carefully monitored. He takes a while to warm up to new people but once he does, he likes to spend time with his people. Babe would love to find a home where he can take his time settling in and not rushing into new situations. His new home would also help him continue his weight loss journey so he can live a healthy life. If you think Babe would be a good fit for your family, submit an adoption inquiry!
Guinea pigs can make wonderful pets! They are very social creatures which means that they generally need at least one companion! Of course guinea pigs should only be kept with other piggies of the same sex. A pair of guinea pigs needs at minimum 10.5 sq. feet of cage space, or roughly 30″ x 50″ with a solid bottom, but more room is always encouraged! Guinea pigs can be quite noisy which can be lovely as long as you are expecting it!

* Can’t adopt right now, but want to help animals? If you are in a position to give, please consider making a gift of any size to help us provide essential services to animals in need, at www.mspca.org/nevinsgift.
If you’ve always wanted backyard goats, look no further! We have several young does who are looking for new homes. These ladies are a mix of LaMancha and Alpine goats, so we believe they will mature to be a medium to large goat. Goats are very social animals, so we are aiming to send them home in groups of at least three so they will always have companionship and playmates. Or if you already have a herd, we recommend these ladies going with other horned goats. They will require a fenced in area with appropriate shelter for inclement weather. Since goats are considered livestock, you will need to check with your town to make sure they are allowed in your area. We’re here to support you and answer whatever questions you may have, so please reach out if you think you could offer a loving home to some of these wonderful goats!
